Internships and Practicum Students:
Internship and practicum students can complete a variety of work through the YMCA, including assisting with program development and capacity building, grant writing, special events, specialty camps, larger health and wellness initiatives, and a variety of projects that service different program areas. The YMCA is looking for applicants with a passion for overall health and wellness, and who are driven and self-motivated.

Assisting the Aquatics Director with project management, budgeting, staff development and implementing quality aquatic programming. This internship is geared toward a student looking to gain some experience in management.
Assisting the Sports and Recreation Director with project management, marketing, operations, staff development, and implementing quality sports programming. This internship is geared toward a student looking to gain experience in sports or recreation management and operations.
Assisting the Fitness & Wellness Director with project management, marketing, operations, staff development, and implementing quality fitness/wellness programming. May have the opportunity to teach Group Fitness classes and shadow Personal training, if desired. This internship is geared toward a student looking to gain experience in Exercise Science, Movement Science, Community Health, Public Health, and or any Health/Wellness-related field of study.

With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, Y volunteers give people of all ages and from all walks of life the resources and support they need to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.
All volunteers must complete a background check through the YMCA annually.
Background check and onboarding may take up to 2 weeks to complete.

Overview: Wellness Center Volunteers assist with the day to day functions of the Wellness Center, including but not limited to equipment upkeep, organizing and updating fitness bulletin boards, and cleaning fitness props.
Age restrictions: 14 years or older.
Schedule: Volunteer hours vary during weekday business hours, with shifts of 2 hours per week minimum.
Overview: Event Volunteers assist with setting up and running certain aspects of events. They create an inviting and welcoming environment from the moment participants arrive, and support staff to ensure events run smoothly.
Age restrictions: 14 years or older.
Schedule: Volunteer hours vary based on event, and may include evenings and weekends.

Overview: Administrative Volunteers assist with basic day-to-day responsibilities that help with the overall function of the organization, including but not limited to envelope stuffing, scanning, office based projects, and organization. Volunteers may also assist with towel service and tours.
Age restrictions: 16 years or older.
Schedule: Volunteer hours during weekday business hours, with shifts of 2 hours per week minimum.
Overview: Camp Wenonah Volunteers must be passionate about the outdoors and have a love for environmental stewardship! Volunteer responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, a variety of physical labor including environmental restoration projects, lawn mowing, firewood collection, clean up and improvement based projects, and special events. Opportunities vary depending on the season.
Age restrictions: 18 years or older.
Schedule: Volunteer hours available between 8am - 5pm on weekdays, with shifts of 2 hours per week minimum.
Overview: Youth Development Volunteers should possess an interest in working with kids, and a willingness to be silly and have fun! Volunteer responsibilities may include working as counselors in Kids Corner, assisting with swim lessons, reading aloud to kids, facilitating activities with kids based on personal interests, assisting with special events, assisting with coaching or youth sports, or helping keep spaces clean and organized. Opportunities can be catered to individual interests, with lots of different opportunities to work with youth in a variety of program areas.
Age restrictions: 18 years or older.
Schedule: Volunteer hours vary between 7 am - 12:00 pm and 2:00 - 7:00 pm on weekdays, with shifts of 1-2 hours per week minimum.
Overview: LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a program for cancer survivors. A certified instructor facilitates each class, with the support of a volunteer. The program includes small group personal training and guest speakers to support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of cancer survivors and patients. It is helpful for volunteers to have a fitness background and/or to have had, or know someone who has had, cancer.
Age restrictions: 18 years or older.
Schedule: This program meets for 90 minutes twice a week for 12 weeks. Days and times vary with each cohort. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one day a week for the 12-week program.
Overview: As a Maintenance / Custodial Volunteer, you will help the YMCA be a clean and safe space for everyone. Volunteers will assist with cleaning of the facilities, both inside and outside, as well as equipment at the YMCA. You may assist with bigger projects under the direction of the Director of Properties & Facilities. If you love to clean, organize, and help make a space look it's best, this opportunity is for you!
Age restrictions: 14 years or older.
Schedule: Volunteer hours vary on weekdays between 9:00 am - 7:00 pm, with shifts of 2 hours per week minimum.
